![]() Mind you I'm not asking for a Paradox Games level of strategic layer, but one that is practical and keeps up the Gears paradigm while giving you a break from the intense feel of the tactical combat episodes. ![]() I get that a lot of effort has gone into the tactical combat and that has to remain the heart of this great game, but it fairly begs for more. Most of all I want the game to be tied in to a strategic layer that lets me do some executive kind of things like research, training, procurement and a strategic map or globe to plan future operations on. I too want more maps, more character development opportunities, more variety in missions. I dont think I would have played xcom 2 as long as I did without them I'm even hoping forn atleast some of these thing to get patched or dlc'd in. Story maps are exatcly the same so that hurts even more. The combat is very enjoyable though so on a second playthrough on a higher difficulty now. Map variety is truly hurting the game yes. I dont even see a point of recruiting extra soldiers besides filling that 4th spot untill you get you know who. And story mode should just get side missions cut so you can go through it with main characters. The war doesnt end because 1 guy dies even if its gabe or sid. This all in a seperate game mode from story so that we can play ironman without hero units. Make new recruits actually cost something. Maybe not with base building but a map with several interest points that you can raid for resources. I personally would prefer to see a strategic map. They should give you a choice between a few pieces though like grimy's lootbox mod for xcom 2. But it wouldn't hurt to do some of the stuff off-missions like talking to characters, moving around the camp in classic TPP Gears style and working on upgrading and getting better equipment instead of relying on lootbox system. Off-mission base management: While I am glad this game didn't have that meta game outside the missions like XCOM and instead focused on the battle.Why am I at the mercy of RNG to upgrade my characters? They should allow use to make or upgrade equipment during the down-time. Remove the lootbox style upgrades: This felt so wrong.Like my no-name shotgun wielding scout is a level and a half higher than my core heroes like Gabe and Seb because I can get so many kills with her, only because the former two opens it up for her. Not everyone is supposed to rack up kills. Different way to level up: Right now, only kills will give you XP which is absurd considering how many units' sole job is to support and help others get kills.Which makes way for another issue - it is hard to get attached to these characters anymore because of this. ![]() There is no need to improve the rookie when you know there will be better replacements down the path.
